Do I need data / hard drive destruction? Why should I recycle . . . Do You Resell Old Equipment? Why should you recycle? Because it’s the "right thing to do” Each year over 400 million computers, monitors and related electronic equipment are replaced with new updated equipment leaving the old systems that are disposed of in landfills contaminating our soil and waterways. Computer waste, known as “E” waste is defined as “hazardous material waste” by the U.S. E.P.A. To help eliminate the rapidly increasing pollution of our earth caused by hazardous “E waste” proper disposal of electronic equipment has now become a necessity. Megabyte Computer Recyclers completely recycle computers and all related equipment, period! We do not resell any complete units to anyone. All we do is recycle. You may ask yourself “what’s involved in the recycling process”? Great question. Megabyte Computer Recyclers completely dismantles computer systems down to the last screw. Each recyclable code is separated and held in our secured warehouse until we ship them to the local refinery. Each hard drive is removed and stored in a separate secured area of our warehouse waiting to be shipped to a local refinery for shredding. Initially we will destroy the hard drive by drilling a ¾ inch hole into the drives disk making the hard drive inoperable by normal means. How much does it cost? Megabyte Computer Recyclers has made the cost of recycling affordable by offering free* recycling to hospitals, schools and corporations. Megabyte Computer Recyclers also works with the community by sponsoring community pick-up locations as well as a convenient customer *drop-off* area at our Elk Grove Village warehouse. Why doesn't everyone recycle? One true reason is because most people are unaware of the hazardous effects the “E Waste” has on the environment. In our “throw-away” world it is so much easier to toss out the old equipment and be done with it. Unfortunately that’s not the right answer. Recycling is the answer and Megabyte Computer Recyclers has made the process easy. Who is Megabyte Computer Recyclers? All hard drives retain vital information that is associated with your company, clients, employee’s and any other secured information. Wiping of the hard drive DOES NOT remove this information from the hard drive. Wiping the hard drive is like loosing a file or folder from a file cabinet that you just can’t find. Sooner or later the file appears and now the information may be is in the wrong hands. The only sure way of removing the possibility of your company’s information reaching unauthorized users is DESTROY THE HARD DRIVE! Megabyte Computer Recyclers has a two-step process in hard drive destruction. The first step in the destruction is a ¾” hole drilled into the center of the hard drive causing the hard drive to become inoperable by normal means. Then we record all serial and model numbers when a certificate of destruction is requested. Second, we completely SHRED the entire hard drive assuring you that your company’s vital information has been destroyed. Why a two step process? Honestly, for your peace of mind. Before your hard drive reaches our shredder it is stored in our SECURED on site staging area. Megabyte Computer Recyclers takes the responsibility of protecting your data seriously. With this proven two step procedure we can guarantee you that your saved information is gone forever.
